Fredericksburg, VA, October 18, 2019 – The Board of Directors of Rappahannock Goodwill Industries (RGI) has announced that Stephen A. Cox has been named the new President & CEO of the organization.
Steve Cox will fill a position that has been vacant following the retirement of President & CEO Donnie Tolson. Julie Bayless, Vice President for Finance, has served as Interim CEO since Tolson’s retirement in September. Cox will assume leadership of RGI on November 18, 2019.
Bruce Barnett, Chairman of the Board for RGI, said the Board of Directors led an exhaustive search to fill the position. “We received a tremendous amount of interest in the opening thanks to the outstanding reputation of Rappahannock Goodwill. The slate of highly qualified candidates was unprecedented for the organization. Steve Cox stood out due to his depth of experience and proven track record,” said Barnett.
Cox joins RGI with a diverse background, including several senior management positions. Most recently, Cox was Senior Vice President, Communications and Marketing for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Previously, he served as Vice President, Public Relations with Sodexo in Gaithersburg, Maryland. His other roles have included President/CEO of the Council of Better Business Bureaus and he is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
“I am excited to be returning to Virginia to lead such an outstanding organization,” said Cox. “Rappahannock Goodwill is well known for the tremendous impact it has on the community. I want to be a part of that success and grow the organization and mission.”
